Perfect to climb on a sunny day

This walk is a must for a bright sunny day.  From the Abbeyglen hotel, drive to the Connemara National Park on the N59 (approx. 20 minute drive).  Go through the visitor centre and pick up a map to the famous Diamond Hill.

There are three routes up the mountain, one short, one medium, and one long.   The longest loop can be completed in approximately 2 to 3 hours, and takes you to one of the most spectacular viewing points in Connemara, at the top of Diamond Hill.

From the top you get a magnificent view of Kylemore Abbey, the surrounding lakes, and the Twelve Ben mountains.

Be sure to make it back in time for our Complimentary Afternoon Tea, served between 4 and 5 on weekdays, 3 to 5 on weekends.

View from the Sky Road

A visit to Clifden is not complete without a walk up the Sky Road.

One of the most scenic routes for both driving or walking, it boasts spectacular views over Clifden Bay.

On your way you will see Clifden Castle, which was built between 1812 and 1815 by John D’Arcy, the founder of Clifden.

For another spectacular view, make your way up to the D’Arcy monument.  Only a ten minute walk from the hotel, this is the best spot for postcard-perfect photos of Clifden and the surrounding area.
