We would like to wish all of our great and wonderful guests a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.  All our staff are busy here cleaning the chimney for Santy and shining the cutlery for our VIPS that spend the Christmas Holidays with us.

Its been a big year, with both highs and lows.  We had two very VIP guests return to Clifden after 100 years.  The Alcock and Brown statue stood proudly outside the castle door for the summer months as Clifden celebrated the Centenary of the First Non Stop Transatlantic Crossing from Newfoundland to Connemara that those most courageous of gentlemen undertook 100 years ago.  In September the American Ambassador came to visit to honor the US Navy Men that 75 years ago had to bail out of their Liberator Bomber during World War II and ended up on our western shores. Sadly we said goodbye to a great friend, guest and entertainer of the Abbeyglen, the Great Brendan Grace.  He held court beside the piano both in the bar and restaurant and entertained us many a night over the years with his great jokes and stories.  He will be very much missed.

On a lighter note we hosted our friends and family from the Original Irish Hotel Group for their annual conference and we were entertained by the amazing Elenor Shanley and Pat Short. Most of all though, we’ve had some great nights entertainment by you, our guests, whom contributed, inspired and made happen countless nights of fun and enjoyment here at the Hotel.  Too many to mention but have a scroll down through our Facebook page where many of the years highlights are immortalised in both video and photographs. We are very grateful for your contribution and support.

Next year Galway celebrates European City of Culture 2020.   Its a great honor and Clifden will be partaking in the year long festival.  It’ll be a great year to visit Galway and Connemara as apart from the usual myriad of festivals it’ll have an extra compliment of fun and interesting events throughout the year.

On that note, all the staff here at the Abbeyglen Castle would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and sincere thanks to all for your delightful custom.  If you would like to treat yourself, a loved one or friends to a stay at the Abbeyglen, the last date for gift vouchers by post to Ireland is Friday 20th but you can email right up to midnight on the 25th to anywhere in the world.  Both can be ordered online here. We would love to great you, your friends and family in 2020.

Merry Christmas,

Paul, Brian and all the Staff at Abbeyglen Castle Hotel
