While Abbeyglen is completely on its own private grounds surrounded by trees and hills with spectacular views of the Twelve Bens Mountains as well as views of the sea, it is still only a 6 minute walk from the castle to the bustling village of Clifden, where you can enjoy fantastic shopping, lively little pubs and meet friendly locals.

The hotel has a 4-mile circular historical walk available from the hotel and there are a number of fantastic walks around the Twelve Bens Mountains, which are close by.

Golf - Connemara Championship Golf Links

A short drive from the hotel you will find the Connemara Championship Golf Links. At the Edge of Europe on the wild Atlantic coast lies a links course that is a challenge to all who play there. Nestled between the mountains and the sea in the West of Ireland, the Connemara Championship Golf Links is an exhilarating golfing experience.

This awesomely picturesque 72 par course with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean was designed by Eddie Hackett and measures over 7,000 yards. Wind and rainbows are the specialty of the house at this 27 hole course which was started in 1973.

For the Golf addict: The Abbeyglen Castle Hotel also has a small 9-hole Pitch and Putt course.(for the summer)

River fishing and lake fishing may also be organised locally.


The hotel can arrange bicycles for rent.  This is a great way to explore the breathtaking scenery that surrounds this area.

Irish Night

Tuesday night is Irish night at Abbeyglen all year round. There is traditional Irish music played in our restaurant during dinner which continues in the downstairs bar after dinner. This is a very popular event at Abbeyglen Castle. In the Summer months we add an additional Irish night which takes place on a Thursday evening. There is a visit at 9pm from the Leprechaun.
